Currently, Firefox's testing version is known as Firefox Nightly. The most recent version of Firefox Nightly -- 28.0 Beta 1 released in February 2014 -- was optimized to work well with the metro design of Windows 8. Although a great deal of effort has already been put into developing Firefox Nightly, it's important to be aware of the fact that the app remains in beta and is not yet stable.

Firefox Nightly was created to serve as Mozilla's version of Firefox for the release of Windows 8, and the interface of the browser was completely redesigned for the new version. Users might note some similarities between Firefox Nightly and the Google Chrome browser, including rounded tabs that depart from the typically pointy cornered tabs of old versions of Firefox.

The homepage of Firefox Nightly makes clear reference to Windows 8 Modern UI in its design and displays frequently visited sites along with bookmarks. Firefox Nightly has clearly been designed to appear to be a part of Windows 8.

Other new features in Firefox Nightly include a tab bar that displays live thumbnails and search features that are integrated into windows. Those using Firefox Nightly can pull up a search field by simply clicking Windows and the F key. The bookmark feature of Firefox Nightly has clearly been tweaked since older versions. Bookmarks in Firefox Nightly are stored in lists rather than in folders.

Although some bugs remain in Firefox Nightly, the browser is well designed to work with many of the touchscreen features that are now typical of machines running on Windows 8. Fans of Windows 8 should definitely give the browser a try and see if they prefer it over other common browser options.
